On Friday, June 4 after 9:00 p.m.  for the first time the possibility of not passing the bar exam presented to myself as a real possibility.  The vast amount of material that we need to have a handle on plus all the multistate versus state specific distinctions can be infuriating.

I was feeling really anxious and stressed out.  I immediately grabbed my phone and called my bar mentor’s one by one at 9:30 p.m. on Friday.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t get in touch with any of them.  I finally dialed my friend who is studying for the Cali bar having taken almost none of the bar exam subjects in law school and I reached her as she was getting ready to go out with her friends.   It was calming to talk to her because she didn’t even know what the heck an MPT is and doesn’t really care that she doesn’t know what it is right now.

Sure, the Cali bar is hard.  Sure, my friend hasn’t taken 90% of the subjects that they test on.  Sure, she is going out on a Friday night instead of studying.  And sure, she doesn’t really know what the heck the MPT which is 10% of the bar exam is.  Right now, if I have to pick which one of us will pass I would pick her.

Oh I am tired today.  So tired that I am going go home as soon as I type this up.  This week I focused on writing essays and I am glad I started on them.  I was very afraid of doing them and I felt I didn’t know enough law.  I am so glad I started doing essays and I realize that yes, I don’t know the rule of law precisely enough and I need to memorize a whole lot of it so I can just dump it on the paper really quick.  I am for the most part doing well at issue spotting.

When I look at what I type up every week I feel like I am doing almost nothing for bar preparation.  But, then I have to remind myself that I am not putting everything that I do here like the classes that are either 4 hours or 6 hours long.  Last weekend we have classes Saturday and Sunday for 6 hrs and that swallowed up a lot of time.  I am also doing state subject quizes, and of course reviewing.  But, still I am not doing as much as I can and I should.

Studying in general I think right now I am at a 75% studying capacity.   At the beginning of week 4 I finally got to a rhythm that works for me.  I no longer take notes in outline form rather in note card form on power point slides because I don’t have time to make note cards and it makes it easier for me to go through the material.  I am also building answer blurbs or model answers that I can start memorizing or become so familiar with it that I will be able to easily recall most of it.  I am not a memorizing machine and if I start memorizing too much then I will forget it by the end of July, but I do need to start memorizing some neumonics now so that I won’t be overwhelmed with the amount of information to memorize in July.

I need to get way more serious about this bar.  Like waaaayy more!

    Goals for Week 5

    - Two MPT’s

-One full State #1 Bar Exam

    -One full MBE Exam

     -10 Essays

    - At least 25 MBE’s in each subject  (100 in torts and close to 50 in contracts)

So, onto what I did this week!

When I logged in today I was really surprised to see Week 3 has gone missing.  I distinctly remember logging in and typing it up in a big hurry.  I don’t know what happened to it.  Hopefully I will come across it again.

    Week 2

I am 20% of the way done with my bar prep.  Wow, that is a terrifying thought!  I do not feel as if I am digesting all this information that is thrown at me.  I am a little nervous but I am optimistic.

    MBE – Multistate Bar Examination

My second attempt at doing ten multistate (MBE) questions per day failed for a second time so week 3 will hopefully find me doing 5 questions from each of the six multistate subjects per day.   I was thinking may be I will not be able to meet my goal so I strated with my weak subject (property) and worked my way to my stronger subjects.  I never got  to constitutional law and evidence.  I have forgotten a lot from evidence so I need to focus on evidence come week 3.   The graph below is incomplete because I don’t have the percentage for my contract questions.   I am happy to see I have improved my property percentage to an average of 60% this week.

    State #1 Essays

I did two essays involving civil procedure.  I was crestfallen when I compared my essays with the model answers because my own essay seemed like a complete watered down version of the model answer.  But, that’s okay.  It was only my first.

    MPT – Multistate Performance Test

Aaah….I wish I had time for you.  I hope to do at least 1 MPT next week.

    So, goals for Week 3:

    • 5 MBE questions per subject per weekday  = 150 MBE Questionss
    • 1 MPT Exam
    • 2 State Essays
