I used GoDaddy for the domain registration even though I absolutely hate their commercials with the same old tired “sex sells” formula.   I already had an account with GoDaddy and I liked their prices. Be careful when dealing with GoDaddy for backordering domaings.  They have some really really shady practices.  For backordering domains, GoDaddy = Super Shady.  Whenever I make a GoDaddy purchase I always Google “GoDaddy Coupon Code” or something to that effect to find coupon codes that work.  The “Extra Discount” shows how much I saved because of a coupon code I found online right before checkout.

I use Word Press hosting because in my PF blog reader days I found Blogger to be too cumbersome when you wanted to comment on someone’s post.  I still find Blogger incredibly annoying and difficult to use when commenting, but I love that commenting on other Word Press sites is easy as pie.

Here is what my blog is costing me a year:

So, how much did your blog cost?  If you are using a free service, do you think you will upgrade in the future?

  • Right now I use blogger so it’s free, but I’ve thought about what it would take for me to pay to host my site. If/When I start getting more traffic I’m sure I’ll upgrade, and I’ll make sure to keep an eye out for coupons codes!

I found your blog through Thrift Little Blog, btw, I’m catching up on your posts and I’m loving your blog!

  • @Kate
Welcome to the blog! I just took a look at your blog and it looks like you are super ambitious. Good luck on your 101 goals! :-)

  • WOW, look at you go! I like the changes to your blog! You’ve raised the bar for me :) I’ll try to catch up…

As for how much it cost to run my blog, I host my blog at home for now (this isn’t the best approach, but I’m a techie and it’s fun for me…) so it cost me $19.68. I’ve had the domain name for a few years, I just didn’t do much with it except play…

Eventually, I’ll move it to a hosted site, but it’s kind of cool having absolute control over it for now.

Thanks Don! $19.68 is awesome. I am the opposite of a techie so I need major help and wordpress and godaddy has been fine.

I’ve been wanting to spruce up the site for awhile and since I am still stuck at home today seemed like the day to do it. Unfortunately, some a plug in I tried to install took the site down for most of the day.

  • I want to upgrade (I use wordpress now), but I don’t know how or what to do. So I’m stuck using free platforms until I learn a little something about the tech game. But Wordpress Hosting seems pretty cheap compared to other hosting options.

I like using wordpress as well because their commenting process isn’t so convoluted like Blogger’s. I opted to do with the domain name and wordpress from the beginning because I am not a techie and if I used a free service I wouldn’t have any clue about transfering the old content. I guess since you are using worpress if and when you upgrade and keep wordpress then it will be easier.

  • Hi Jane. My blog service is currently free by blogger.com. I did contemplate on upgrading but held off. Will revisit my choice later this year. I don’t quite understand why you have to pay 3 different areas to host your blog.

Could you please explain this to me and sorry to ask since I am new to this? Thank you.

  • I’m still on Blogger, I think it’s funny that I had no idea Blogger was such a pain for others to comment on. Meanwhile, I was griping about how Wordpress sent me a confirmation email for every single comment I left.

I find blogger such a pain. The first time I submit my comment it never ever accepts, then I have to hit submit again and then it will want me to copy some letters/numbers and then I have to hit submit for the third time to comment on a blogger post.

But, I had no idea that wordpress sent confirmation emails? I know some people set it up to do it the first time someone comments on their blog and I haven’t done anything like that. Does it sent an email everytime you comment on this blog?

  • GoDaddy domain registration http://www.twoyoung.com = $1.17

    Wordpress = Free

    No Hosting = Free

There was a coupon code for $0.99 domain registrations, and that was actually the reason why I decided to give blogging a try =o

  • @Dave
Good deal, Dave! How is the free word press hosting working out? I believe they have some restrictions on advertising on the free one but other than that it seems similar to the paid one, right?

  • @MoneyHoneySF

Hey, sorry about the delayed response. Your comment was in the spam que and I missed it until today. I pay for three different areas.

First, domain registration. I bought my seejanegetrich.com domain. I then bought a privacy service that blocks my personal information and finally the hosting. None of the files that appear on this blog is located on my personal computer so I pay for that.

I am still new to all this as well and I am learning little by little.

  • I too hate commenting on Blogger! It’s a major PITA. Go wordpress!

I’m still using 100% free hosting. Still finding my blogging feet really. And not ready to start shelling out money for it, but would like to one day :)

I wonder if those using Blogger have any trouble comenting on Wordpress or find anything about wordpress annoying. I love it and thinks its great and may be ignoring negatives.
