Where Art Thou My First Paycheck?
2
December 26th, 2009UncategorizedI am still waiting for my first paycheck from my holiday job. I am starting to get a little tired of my job and it would really motivate me to see some of the fruits of my labor. Also, I get a standard hourly wage and then I get various commissions on top of that so it makes it difficult to estimate how much money I am making. I am very happy that I was poached by the jewelry department because my earning potential is much higher than what I would have been making in retail.
Retail Departments
Hourly Wage: $8.00
Every Store Credit Application Opened: $2.00
Jewelry Department
Hourly Wage: $7.25
Sales Commission: 1% of fine jewelry or watch sale
Insurance Plan Commission: 10% of plan
Watch Repair: 40% of total repair
Every Store Credit Application Opened: $2.00
So, say someone decided to buy a $100 watch from me with the insurance for 2 years for $19.99 and they decided to open a credit application so they can save 10% from their purchase price making the purchase price $90. So, my pay would break down like this.
Hourly Wage: $7.25
Sales Commission: $0.90
Insurance Plan: $1.99
Credit Application: $2.00
Per hour total = $12.14
The per hour total would really vary because not everyone would open a credit application and I would have more than one sale. You have to really push the insurance plan and the credit application. The sales commission by itself is paltry and we make our money in the extra’s.

Boy was I sweating it… It took over a month to get payroll ironed out. :p
