visaAccording to Experian.com, the average credit score in America is 693.   Are you better than average?

After searching far and wide I am not aware of any websites that will offer you a free estimate of your credit score unless you sign up for something else.  A lot of forums referenced creditkarma.com, but alas creditkarma is no more.  What is the next best thing?  You can find free tools like “What’s Your Credit Range?” tool to get a free estimate of the range you fall under. I know my credit score so I am going to put my information into this tool to see how accurate it is.

The “What’s Your Credit Range?” calculator works by computing your response to 10 questions.  To use the calculator you need to provide the following information:

    • Total credit accounts (inlcuding student loans, mortgage, credit cards etc…)
    • Toral credit accounts that you are presently late on
    • Loans & credit cards applied for in the last two years
    • Total number of installment loans
    • Credit limit
    • Judgment, bankruptcy, tax lien
    • Date most recent credit card or loan was opened

The Credit Range Calculator put me in a Low-Medium Risk Range which is better than the average American consumer.  As someone who has been in school forever, my credit history isn’t that lengthy.   The difference between my lowest score and my highest score (or the range) was 70 points.  My actual score is within the range provided by the credit range calculator so, I would say this is an accurate estimate of where you stand.

  • Thanks Tom! Glad to have you around for the ride.

  • Hey Jane! Wow, didn’t realize it was THAT HIGH! You’d think b/c of the financial turmoil we’ve been in, everybody had a donkey credit score!

693 is like a great SAT score! Not bad!

Good luck with Law and your new blog!

  • I agree with Tom. Your layout is bright, funky and totally awesome.

That being said, I think my credit score is around the mid-700s. Should be higher now that I have no more debt left, but who knows.. their reporting agencies are so sketchy with info

I checked my credit report last time and they listed an employer from 1998!!! Seriously. :)

Thanks for coming by the blog. Am adding you and your fab blog to my reader!

  • Hi Jane, Why do you say Credit Karma is no more? Our site has always been up and we have provided almost 2 Million free credit scores in a short period of time.

Let me know what you thinks.

  • @ Credit Karma
    Thanks for dropping by.

I have been eager to try this popular site and I believed it was no more because none of the links to the site worked, I typed in the address directly and it didn’t work, I googled credit karma and then clicked on the search result and it didn’t work. I tried from my laptop and then I went and tried it from a public computer and it still didn’t work. Do you know what’s going on?

  • Greatings, seejanegetrich.com – da best. Keep it going!
    Thanks

  • Edit: http://www.creditkarma.com/ is once again accessible.
