Part II: Where’s My $50 Bucks?
7
October 22nd, 2009BudgetHow Sexy is My Budget?
Budget $1,000
Fixed $815
- Rent & Utilities
- Rent: $750
- Internet: $25
- Electric: $25
- Car Insurance $0
- Cell Phone $15
Variable $85
- Gas $35
- Food $30
- Entertainment $10
- Misc. $10
- Buffer $0
Other-November $100
- Oil change $25 (?)
- Tag Renewal $25 (?)
- Gas for trip home $50
I will be the first to say that this budget is a little tight for two reasons. I have a lot of expenses with my car falling in November and psychologically it was difficult for me to go past $1k. The gas expense for my trip home is very much on the conservative side. I am hoping to find someone else from my school going in the same direction so that we can split the cost of the gas. I think my insurance has already been paid for the quarter and I am in the process of confirming this. My entertainment budget is very small and that is because everyone is starting to settle down and gear up for exams.
My buffer constitutes any money that I may make from selling books on Amazon, selling giftcards or items that I no longer used. I give myself pretty free reign on what I use this money for.
(P.S. Sorry for the wavy figures. For the life of me I couldn’t figure how to make my figures line up. )
Update 10/23: I got confirmation that my policy was paid off until early February so I edited the budget to reflect that. Also, the person who I was hoping to give a ride to in return for half of the gas money will not be going home until Christmas. So, I gotta foot the gas bill home.

I found your site on technorati and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you down the road!

I was going through your budget trying to figure out how the heck you made it balance on $1000, when your rent is $750!!!!
But then I saw food at $30 *eyes pop*
Can I ask what you eat?? BF and I are admittedly foodies, nuts about organic food, and the like, so our budget of $250/each per month seemed reasonable
But $30 is superhuman!
HOT DAMN.
Well my budget for this month & next may be blown out of the water if I buy a winter jacket. *sigh*

I’m also shocked by the $30 budget for food. But then the second biggest expense for me is food after mortgage/HOA/property taxes.
You’re lucky you’re still young, I don’t think my health can survive on a $1 per day diet.

I’m a newcomer to reading your blog and just saw this post. There are some Aldis and some Save-A-Lots in Maryland if you’re interested. When I first moved here 4 years ago, I thought I’d never be able to afford food without an Aldi. Then one day, out of the blue, I just sort of stumbled on an Aldi. Turns out there’s one in Hyattsville and one in Langley Park. Happy shopping.
